Side-Project Opportunity for Student Programmer Contents
To Whom It May Concern: Hello and thank you for checking out this website. I hope to work with you in developing this website into an interactive place to post events happening in LA. 1 What's in it for You? A web developer and I would have to enter into a profit sharing contractual agreement whereby any future profits are to be divided by an agreed-upon percentage rate. (The specifics of this agreement are laid out in rough draft at the end of this letter). Since you will be doing virtually all of the programming work, you will make a large percentage (to be negotiated) of any future profits . Since I purchased the domain name and will be paying to market the website, I too would like a percentage that makes it worth my time. This is just a side-project for me while I go to college; and it may also be viewed as a side-project from your perspective, since there's no immediate money to be made while the website gets built and gets marketed. It is a learn while you work, profit in the near future arrangement; but that future profit may be very substantial, as I will soon explain. I am not in a position to pay a programmer, as I am a student myself; nor am I personally able to develop this website, since I don't have those skills and don't have the time to learn them. That's where you come in, hopefully. 2 The Concept The vision for this website is for it to be an interactive place where people, businesses, organizations and government agencies can come to post events. Garage sales, estate sales, parties, concerts, auctions, charity drives and more, can all be posted to the website. Please contact me for more details. 3 The Purpose Lots of interesting things can be done to make this website a useful place for the Los Angeles community to come to post events, and to check out what's happening in their immediate community and beyond. The goal is for a person to be able to wake up one morning with absolutely nothing planned; and then to go to TodayInLA.com to check out all the things that are possible to do on that day. Alternatively, a person could select a date when they think they will be free, and see what events will be happening at that future date. I have many little ideas for this website, and look forward to talking with you to discuss which ideas you think will work, and which won't. I anticipate that we can build a successful site, and have thousands of new and repeat visitors daily. 4 How the Site Will Make Money A high visitor count would of course command a high advertising rate; and I think advertising is how the site will make money. But I wouldn't want the website to have a junky-spamy feel. Advertisements would need to appear discreetly and tastefully, so that the website has a fresh, elegant feel, like Google and Facebook has managed to achieve. If we build a top-notch website together, and I market it successfully, I have no doubt that this site has the potential to bring in a good advertising revenue; and by "good" I mean $50,000 a month, at least. With potentially tens of thousands of Los Angelenos visiting the site every day, we could easily attract, for example, 10 businesses to spend $5,000 (or 20 businesses at $2,500) a month to advertise on the site; and there you have the $50,000 figure. Big money can be made, and you can take a very large chunk of that money. You'll never have to work again if you don't want to. Go buy a nice house, some nice cars, and just sit back and enjoy life! 5 The Type of Person I'd Like to Work With Right now my goal is to find a web developer who shares my vision for Today in LA. It is crucial that you believe strongly that the concept will work; and that you believe that our efforts can result in us becoming wealthy. Without this belief, there will be no excitement and enthusiasm to stay the course and see the project through to completion; and the quality of work and quality of our collaboration will be diminished without this belief. With regard to personal traits, I am looking for somebody who is honest, ethical, patient, communicative, creative, intelligent, a good interlocutor of ideas; and has a pleasant attitude, i.e. not big-headed, rude or testy. Good communication skills and patience are both incredibly important, as we will sometimes need to discuss many aspects of the website and collaborate on little details. It is alright if you're a student web developer, so long as you're a good student whose on his/her game, and whose able to learn on the job and do your best to make the site work professionally. (As far as looks go, I'll probably need to bring another person on board at a later date to handle the graphical aspect of the website). 6 References Please email me for details. 7 The Contractual Details Please email me for details.
